This, from over a year ago, still pretty much summarizes my outlook on the election. We’re living out the ending of a world; the characters are merely playing their part.

Wow. This feels true. And, perhaps I'm Pollyannaish, but there's a certain excitement or, at least, curiosity about what might emerge from what feels like a dumpster fire right now. Of course, it could be awful. But I agree with Chesterton that the world wobbles -- sometimes worse, sometimes better. So I hope for better.

@JimRain There are definitely better futures out there. I'm hoping for one of those too.

@JimRain Damn man, yes, that's an excellent post. I think I missed it at the time. Glad you linked back to it.

Related: the Chinese character for crisis includes the character for opportunity. There's no doubt we're deep in a crisis or several connected crises. We want easy answers, convenient fixes. But our problems are deep. Foundational to not just our politics but our culture. The task in front of us, should we attempt it, is nothing short of a remaking of not just our government but our society.

@Denny That's the future I'm hoping for, friend.
